LG Vu (CU920)

{ Posted on 4:42 AM by ikayana }

I purchased this LG VU phone for my husband, as I thought it looked great and had all of the features on it I was looking for. He is really impressed with it when I give this to him as a Birthday present. The Vu is made of sturdy, thick, black plastic rather than metal and adds pick-up, hang-up, and camera buttons to it's hardware volume controls. The general design of this LG is a very, modern, stylish and a very cool looking phone. The touch screen on this phone is really fun to use. Many touch-screen phones have either a slightly awkward touch, or are really sensitive, like LG's own VX10000 Voyager, or an interface, that really is not finger-friendly, such as the HTC Touch my brother has. There is no worries here, with this one though. The Vu uses an interface of large, beautiful, picture icons and scroll bars, that really welcome the size of your fingers, letting you glide around all your menus at a very comfortable pace.Texting and keyboard functions.
I love to text with this phone. Its easy on my fingers. For your text, you have two options really. You have a full keyboard that, comes up and magnifies each letter as you touch it, or a virtual phone keypad with phone-like multi-tapping. Both keyboards vibrate each time you press a key which is really cool I find. They are both very nicely laid out and everything is in the right places and easy enough to use. A good keypad for texting on in my opinion.

Screen
With this Vu's it's main screen has four seperate functions, at the very bottom of it's good sized display screen. It has a well set out main menu, TV, your contacts menu, and a great dial pad. If you want to change your settings on this, to enable your shortcuts menu, you also get your music, (my favourite) messaging, web browsing, and IM come up on your home screen also. Bring up your main menu and you will get your icons divided into three separate tabs. Phone and messaging, music and video, and your tools and settings. This really is all simple and straightforward to use. It is nice and clear and Vibrant also with good sized icons.

Watch TV on your LG VU
To watch television through your Vu LG, you will have to sign up for this service though and pay the $20 per month charge, which I think is too much, pull out the antenna from the top corner of your phone, and press on your TV button. This sound can be heard over stereo through your Bluetooth headphones as well as your old wired ones and its excellent.

Music
Now for your music. You can load all your songs onto your microSD card and that fits underneath the phone's battery nicely and play them through the built-in music player. This LG Vu supports all MP3 files and your WMA music files, but not AAC for some reason, so for the best experience I have found, I recommend using a Windows Media Player. This music player works well and the sound is excellent on this.

Camera
The 2-megapixel camera is not that good really. It does its job I guess, but its nothing great. It's got an autofocus and a 320-by-240 resolution video-recording mode, but at 9 frames per second, the videos are shaky, and stills are sometimes very blurry. This Lg Vu is the less expensive of the i-phones and packs in features like 3G, instant messaging, and stereo Bluetooth which is excellent.

Overall

Overall I highly recommend this phone to everyone. My husband loves it and I like to borrow it too sometimes. He has had it a while now and it still works really well. It has gone down a little in price from wgen I first purchased this also, so it now more affordable. Its a great phone my husband loves with great sounds and features on it also

Toshiba D-R410 DVD

I bought this DVD recorder after reading many reviews about it on-line. I wanted to spend around $100 on one and this one fitted the bill nicely. I am very pleased with this Toshiba recorder. It looks sleek and stylish sitting on my glass self, underneath my television. It has a lovely black glossy finish to it and is very easy to use. This recorder is inexpensive. It performs basic DVD recordings without a problem at all. It upscales DVD to 1080p. It supports most recordable DVD formats, including dual-layer discs which is really good. Its not special but it does its job well.We are able to record all our favourite shows we have missed or want to re-watch at a later date, with very little effort on this recorder, which is great. There is not any extra features though, such as a good recording speed, DVD or even RAM compatibility, or extra connectivity, like a USB or SDHC card slot, but for the money it does what we want it to do. Play our DVDS. It has good sized and easy to use buttons, for Skip, Stop and Record, which are also available on the front of the unit if you happen to bury the remote under the seat cushion. The remote for this DVd recorder is easy to use also and it works quite well, is easy to find the functions you need and looks nice also.

Recording
To make a recording on this DVD player, you will need to put in your DVD disc, select a function or imput of your choice, press your Record button on the remote, and press the Stop button, when you are done of course. Pre selecting a recording is easy, even for me to do. You just need to press the Timer Programme button and set the date and time in there, but this toshiba can't control a cable/satellite box though, so you'll need to turn it to the correct channel before the program starts. Plus, you also need to remember to turn the unit completely off before the recording starts also, which is a common feature on all DVD recorders anyway. Well it records very well I find and is easy to use if I can do this.

Overall
Overall for your basic DVD recordings this Toshiba is an excellent buy and it really looks nice and stylish also. They have come down a lot now in price, so I really would highly recommend it for you basic DVD playing and recording needs as I find it straightforward to use and plays and records really well indeed

Sony BDV-IS1000 Home theater system

This is the second home theater system we have purchased. The first one a pioneer got damaged and we replaced it with this Sony, as we had a sterio by sony and the sound was amazing. I did a lot of research before buying it and I got to hear it in the store myself before I purchased it and knew this was the replacement I wanted. It had a Blu Ray with this also that my husband wanted, so this kept him happy. The product design is excellent indeed. It looks really stylish in my home and the speakers are so compact, it really looks right at home in living room. This incredible home theatre has excellent audio and video quality, that only Blu-ray Disc player can really deliver. It has an incredibly thin speaker design. It has one larger and five tiny speakers that are approximately the size of a golf ball. The 5.1 channel Blu-ray Disc surround system really has no problem delivering the full power home theater products either. The wireless audio can be transmitted from the main system in the living room to wireless rear speakers for simple surround sound, as well as separate audio devices throughout my home. It really is a great system I love.

The speaker system is made from chunky black plastic, but it really looks very stylish overall. Its design is carefully chosen and the little speaker design I love the most with this set. It all is very sturdy and well made also.

Features
This surround theatre, has an ethernet connection, that allows us to connect to the Internet with by service provider, to use the live bd function and all your firmware updating, that become available. It is also with a good memory port for your choice of flash memory features. This surround system also supports the latest advanced audio formats around, the systems decodes Dolby, TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio decoding. It has HDMI inputs for adding additional components, such as my PlayStation 3 gaming system and can upscale DVDs to 1080p output, when you connect it via HDMI to a compatible high-definition television. Other features include Sony's xross media bar for easy menu navigation, Digital Cinema Auto Calibration for simple surround sound setup and BRAVIA Sync for Theatre for one-button command of your compatible home theater components through HDMI.

I can honestly say that these speakers perform as well as the Jamo/Kenwood system that I previously owned, without being able to hear much difference between the two. (one did not work when we first purchased this though) Everything about this home theatre was worth waiting for. I highly recommend it to all. It might be pricey, but it is certainly worth it when you hear and use this system. This system is the best I have had so far. It looks great and really sounds amazing. It will blow you away. I highly recommend this system. The price has come down now also, so this makes this incredible value for what you are getting. Its a pleasure to listen to

I bought this MP3 player for my daughter for her Birthday. The price was not to bad for a 4GB either. It looked stylish and attractive in the shop and I knew she would like it. My husband set it all up for her which was easy enough to do. It has a decent sized screen on it. The mp3 player itself is quite small and happily fits in her trouser pocket. It can be syncronised with windows media player 10 which also means that it can be used for holding data. It can charge of USB which is very useful (my daughter loves this) It is a nice stylish grey color and the sound on it is excellent.

Graphic wise, it is nothing too special or exciting, but it gets its job done. It is slick and modern in style and design though and very stunning in shape and in it's handling. Functionally though this really is excellent. The XS100 screen definition is really very good on this, though it is not of HD quality, but thats not so bad I guess. The MP3 Player only is compatible with JPEG customary images though. I find the 4GB is sufficient to play around 1000 tracks. The storage of 4GB will hold an extra 2,000 tracks and that includes every type of audio media format. The transfer rates are very fast due to the fast USB transfer fast - track Windows music browser software.Overall this MP3 player is excellent. My daughter really loves it and shows it off to her friends. I would highly recommend this to everyone. For this price and all its features, it is great for children in my opinion

It really looks good compared to his last scanner. It is more stylish and fits into the space on his desk better. It is very easy to use compared to a lot of these appliances. It has a very quick image transfer also. This scanner has a new Perfect Page Scanning feature and includes state-of-the-art features, which allow scanning documents of different sizes, contrasts and colours automatically. Even the most challenging and mixed documents are scanned very easily for me without the need to change the scanner settings. This is an excellent feature on this scanner. This kodak scanner to me is amazing. It really offers the office great productivity, such as optical character recognition and scanning directly to searchable PDF files, enabling you to search, copy and paste textual information from all your scanned documents. PDF files, the most common format for electronic document distribution, can be shared over the network or uploaded to a Website.

It really has a high scanning page also and allows a copy of 25 pages per minute, which is very useful and saves a lot of time. It uses mono and colour and can copy both sides of a document at the same time. It has a document feeder with a capacity of up to 50 A4 sheets of paper, which prevents jamming, and feeds very smoothly a wide variety of our documents, with different qualities and sizes. Its feeder is very good on this kodak. It features size detection, deskew, cropping, multi feed detection and an intelligent thresholding function, which are standard and fully automatic. The scanner also features a wide range of scanning applications with the bundled Kodak-developed TWAIN and ISIS drivers, which is really useful for everyone today.

This scanner comes equipped with one USB 2.0 interface and cable for your handy Plug and Play installations, which is useful for those users who might not have a PC with USB connectivity, a USB 2.0 card is also bundled with this scanner. It also has a flexible electronic colour dropout, which automatically suppresses non-critical red, green or blue background to improve forms in processing.

Overall
This scanner overall is an excellent buy. Its controls, buttons and features are all well laid out and very easy to use and find. It goes through step by step very easy to follow instuctions of use. I would highly recommend this scanner to all. It is very well made made and has yet to let me or my hubby down. Highly recommended!

I really like this webcam. It is a great shape and design and fits on a notebook really well (unlike a few of the others I have bought) I bought this webcam, online at a great price to replace one that had broken, but it was not that great anyway. It's design and quality are really very good and it is very sturdy, slim and compact. It looks quite stylish also. I found it very easy to use and install onto my daughters notebook. It features a high defintion Video, that is 1.3 MP, high definition still photos and it shows you in the best light and has a built-in microphone on board, which can automatically pick up your voice with remarkable clarity, which is very clear and crisp and is excellent in my opinion.

This great little webcam is really suited for Live Messenger, which I really find a great feature. It allows you to share all your photographs, with all of your friends, use its blog touch feature and has a great windows live call switch also, which is simple to use to start your video calls with. The one touch Windows Live Call switch, lets you see who's online when you need to, and is great, if you're on your way to making a video call. It has 3X Digital Zoom also. The zoom feature, delivers realistic, up-close-and-personal videos, so you can see the curves of every friends, smile, really well. Its excellent video quality lets you see the smiles of your friends clearly with it's 640 x 480 pixel video resolution and wide-Angle Lens. The 71 degree wide angle lens is very good and ensures no one gets left out of your pictures either.

Overall Opinion

Overall an excellent webcam with great picture quality and is highly recommended by me to purchase. This webcam really looks very well and fits perfectly on my daughters notebook and very securely also. It really has perfect video quality also and all the features on this is certainly worth the price. Highly recommended. I am hoping to purchase another one soon

Reasons for purchasing
This sound card system is a must for your computer. It is top of the range in my opinion. It really is of very high performance. I was recommended to buy this from my brother, who had found it to be excellent also for his computer sound needs, so I went online and bought the same one he had shown me, at a really good price indeed.

This card apparently has a 36-bit embedded DSP, and this enables a software, driven bay or router for all your analog data and digital I/Os and all are extremely fast outputs for low, latency software and monitoring use. A single unit or control panel provides great settings for clock and sample rates, different buffer sizes, individual signal levels, for every input and output you will ever need. It is very easy to install this also and my husband had it done on my old PC within minutes.

I really know of no comparable DAW system on the market, that combines such high sound quality with recording and editing software, of such sophisticated elegance on the market. This system also can cope with singer-songwriter demos apparently, to multitrack live band recordings, which I suppose could be very useful for some people. It really is an excellent sound card for all your computer needs.

Overall this is a very truly superior hardware and software system that I highly recommend anyone to buy. It is 100% the best around in my opinion and I dont think you will beat it on quality. The price is good for what you get. The Best!

Reasons for reviewing
This really is an excellent, stylish and eye catching television and have great pleasure watching it in my mothers new cinema room she has created. It is really in a league of it's own. Picture wise, I think it outclasses any RPTV on the market right now. The HD on this is amazing and we watched a BLU Ray on it last weekend and it was incrediable. My mother can also connect this to her computer through the HDMI input and that looks amazing as well. This Sony Wega at my Mothers is hooked up to a surround sound system which makes it even more outstanding. It really has the picture quality of a LCD and a plasma, but costs a lot less. I know I am meant to own a product to write a review, but I use this a few times a week in my Mothers house and I really want to tell everyone how great it is.

This Sony wega rear projection television my Mother owns, has full HD1080p picture quality, which is delivered quite perfectly, within a very thin and compact and very stylish looking enclosure. The Grand WEGA rear projection HDTV television is also equipped with the latest Engine system, which really reduces signal distortion to provide you with the best picture there possible is. And you're fully connected also with dual HDMI (1080p capability) and front component input (1080i). You can also add PC inputs and SRS TruSurround XT audio enhancement technology like my Father has and you can see how watching television on the KDS-55A2020 is more than an event, it's an experience and an amazing one at that.

The advanced Iris on this television is a great and very unique Sony function, which has been carefully manufactured to improve the brightness level and contrast on this a lot, especially on darker scenes in movies etc and this really works very well. It is accessed inside the Picture Menu on the television and offers 2 automatic settings and 5 manual settings. Auto 1 and Auto 2 are dynamic adjustment levels, that automatically open and close the iris according to the gamma levels of the picture on your screen.

Well I read the tech stuff in the booklet enclosed in the box but this really is a great television in every single department. It makes my televisions I have look out of date and they are only a few years old. Everything on this television is really quite easy to use. The remote is great and is easy to navigate around with.

I have watched DVDs, satellite television and other regular channels on this television and goodness they are crystal clear. It really is very noticeable when you watch this television. The picture and color quality is very vibrant and everything looks so natural. It really is a luxury using and watching this television. The sound quality is something else also. It really has great surround sound and its perfect also and even the music coming out of this television is incredible. Its prefect in every single way. I really am buying one when my breaks down.

Technical Details:
Full HD (1920 x 1080)Picture Resolution with SXRD chip
WEGA Engine System .
Contrast Ratio up to 10000:1 (with Advanced Iris)
1080p Input for Full HD via HDMI rear connections (x2)
ATSC Integrated Tuner

Overall Opinion

Overall I would highly recommend this television to all. It is outstanding delivering excellent picture quality from every room angle. This is a must have television and I give it 10 out of 10. I really am buying one of these as I look forward to my few visits a week to my Mothers, just to watch this television. It really looks great, sounds amazing and the picture quality is unlike any television on the market. The price is coming down also which is excellent. The best television I have ever watched before and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Microsoft Communications Pack 3000

Reason for purchasing
I bought this microsoft communication pack for my husband, as he needed a new keyboard and mouse, as his where both well worn out. It has an ultra-thin keyboard, optical mouse and an excellent web cam all in one package. It is stylish and eyecatching and I bought it on a special offer in my local store for a little surprise for him. It stated on the display that it had quiet keys on the keyboard and I know my husband wanted a quieter keyboard, as he is on his computer late at night and does not like waking anyone with his tapping, especially the children. He always buys Microsoft mouse also, as he says they are hard to beat, so I knew he would like this set.Keyboard
This Wireless Keyboard with great hotkeys and a very modern curved for comfort design, really does have quiet, very responsive, thin-profile keys on board it. My husband was very pleased with this feature when he first tried it out. This excellent design allows your hands to rest very naturally and really comfortably. It allows one-touch access, to all of your media keys, F keys, and also your Hot Keys, which really simplifies more common tasks for you. You really get one-touch access to your commands and programs you use the most. It all looked really stylish and well made also, on first seeing it out of its box.

The keyboard has great enhanced Keys, which easily complete all your common tasks, using the enhanced, touch keys and locking them to use their traditional functions. It is a spill free design also, so there is no need to worry, when you start working or spilling things on it. I had this problem before with some water on an other keyboard, so this feature gives us peace of mind. Everything on board this keyboard is clearly marked in white lettering and it looks well on the black ground. It is very sturdy also when typing on it. Overall an excellent keyboard in this set.

The Wireless mouse.
The wirlesss optical mouse that comes also in this set, is very sturdy and comfortable to hold. It allows you to enjoy wireless freedom and comfort with no desktop clutter from wires. It looks stylish and glides and rolls well. It is off high performance optical technology and has no mouse ball. It compliments the keyboard well and is finished in silver and black. The Optical sensor on this, delivers greater accuracy and control. It also has a very useful tilt wheel, so you can scroll side to side, as well as up and down, smoothly and easily for a more efficient, comfortable work experience I find.

Battery Life
I find the battery life in the mouse lasts for around six months with duracell, which is really good as some do not last well on batteries. The keyboard batteries last for around a year.

The Webcam
The webcam is excellent in this package. It delivers crisp, clear viewing of your friends with its face tracking technology and has good sound and voice control. It fits well onto my husbands monitor, very securely and seems sturdy enough when hitting against. It was very easy to install also on software.

Overall
Over all this is an excellent comfortable keyboard and mouse. I would highly recommend this package to everyone thinking of purchasing a new one. Everything in this set works really well and my husband is very pleased with it all. The keyboard is fantastic, the mouse is so easy to use and it feels great. The webcam does a great job of sendind and recieving video messages also. Overall this is an excellent set that I would highly recommend buying. For the price its a good deal

HP Color LaserJet CP4005dn printer

{ Posted on 4:30 AM by ikayana }
Tags :

Reason for purchasing
I always seem to stick to HP when it comes to printers, as they have never let me down, unlike a few other makes I had years ago. I purchased this for my husbands home office, but it is used by all my family for all their different printing projects they do. This printer is excellent the best we have owned to date. I knew it would live up to our expectations because of all the good reviews I had read about it before purchasing it online.

Performance
This HP is really the kind of color laser printer you really would expect from any HP. It's very fast, capable of most things, and has a very strong output quality, particularly for printing text and graphics I find. The printer is a little restricted on paper-handling though. Still, it is sufficient for the small to medium-size office or a smaller workgroup. It can can hold 600 sheets of paper, divided into a 500 sheet drawer and a 100 sheet multipurpose tray which is very good. The HP prints at 30 pages per minute for black and white pages and 25 ppm for color printing, which is very fast.

The Printers Design
I actually am very pleased with the overall appearance and design of this HP. I think as printers go, it looks stylish enough. It is made of thick gray plastic and it really weighs a lot. It is very sturdy though and will last well in my opinion. All the buttons are situated at the front and are all clearly marked. The printing tray is easy to use and pull up and down also. Overall a good looking printer.

Set Up
Setting up this HP printer is surprisingly very easy, except for moving it into place though. It's a fairly big printer and it is very heavy indeed. You will need at least two people to help lift it. Once you've found the perfect place for it, however, the physical setup is almost simple to do. There is very little to the set up and the toner cartridges do not need your help to prepare them. They're already in place, inside the printer, ready to use which is great. The network setup is also very easy with this HP printer. Just plug in the network cable and run the fully automated installation routine.

Photographs and Prints
The photograph speed is really very impressive with this HP printer, because the overall quality is very good for a laser type of printer in my opinion, despite one smaller issue though. Red and orange colors on this printer are a little bit oversaturated and look more like the color magenta in my eyes, so the color orange, a red apple, and red stop sign for instance, are beyond the range of acceptable color to me. But colors in most photos are well within their realistic range, even though some photos are a little darker than they really should be at times. You won't mistake the output for true photo quality with this though, but unless you have a highly critical eye, you'll probably consider the photos excellent for your everyday needs like I do.

Text quality
The text quality really is great for almost anything you want to print off with this HP printer and I found it very acceptable indeed. Graphics quality is really good enough for any internal business use I need it for, as well as for things such as leaflets, projects and other handouts which you might print.
.
Overall
Overall an excellent laser printer for any office and it gets the job done quickly and very easily indeed. I would recommend this printer and I am pleased with it. The photograph quality is great, the print quality for text is good also and the performance of this HP overall is really fast. The price has come down a lot also, so its a must have in my eyes. Highly recommended!

NETGEAR WG511T Super-G Wireless PC Card - network adapter

{ Posted on 4:29 AM by ikayana }

Reason For Purchasing
I have bought three of these Net gear cards in the last year to replace all the broken non-wireless adapter sticks my children kept breaking because they continually pulled them in and out. Well these cards are outstanding. They are fitted into the computer internally and are very easy to install. No more broken network sticks with these.

How they work
They allow connection to a main computer in your home and work extremely well and are certainly worth every penny I have spent on them. A great invention in my eyes. These USB adapters deliver up to 108 Mbps of wireless Internet and network access to either your desktop PC or laptop using 802.11g Super G technology. The WG511T operates at 10x the speed of 802.11b products and capable of easily distributing digital music, streaming videos and emailing photos. These cards allow connection to the net very easily and without the inconvenience and expense of Ethernet cabling. They really are excellent.

Set Up
They are extremely safe also and will protect your network from eavesdroppers and bandwidth pinchers also. To be really secure though, you can limit access from your wireless router to designated computers, using their unique ID, called a MAC address which is great. We change ours weekly for safer web searching. They really are very easy to install and it very easily slides into the PCMCIA slot on the side or back of your laptop or PC. Set-up is made quick and easy with NETGEAR's Smart Wizard Install assistant: The WG511T selects the best available connection and adapts its settings to match. Five minutes and they are ready to use. No more wires either. These cards are the best purchase I have made in years. My daughters where costing me a fortune, as they kept breaking the wired adapters when they pulled them in and out of the USB ports. These cards are hidden away inside the PC.

Overall Opinion
I would highly recommend everyone to use these Network cards. They really are better than any other adapters around and have to be tried. I give then top marks. I really am glad these where invented. We run three computers upstairs with these cards and each and every one is fast and secure. It really is great not having those stupid little antenna dongle things connected to your USB ports any more. These cards are the best way to connect with. Nothing will beat them wirelessly. Honest. I really highly recommend these network adapters to everyone. They are quite cheap these days also.

What These Filters Do.
I love this privacy protecter. I used this one at work on my computer and it really allows anything I am doing on my computer to be hidden away when I want it to.This Privacy Filter is designed to fit a 30" widescreen LCD monitor. It will really protect your information with its tiny vertical blinds on the surface of the screen narrow the viewing angle so data is only visible directly in front of the monitor up to 45 degrees away from the center of the screen. Onlookers can only see a dark unclear screen when attempting to view the information from a side angle. In addition to providing security, the privacy filter also blocks the glare to help reduce eye strain which is also very useful. They are very well made and sturdy also and of course you can buy them for any sized monitors also.

These filters can really be very easily attached, by using the clear double sided strips that come included, which are designed for LCD screens or with the included pads that stick to the edge of the LCD screen to hold the filter in place and they do work very well and holds it on great. I would recommend every office or home to use these privacy filters. They are excellent and I like to use them to stop others reading my work.Overall Opinion
Overall an excellent device that I would highly recommend to others. I would not be without these filters now. They really are great in the workplace or even at home. A great way to protect those prying eyes from looking at your work on your computer. Highly recommended in my opinion.

McAfee Internet Security Suite 2009

Reasons for purchasing
I have used McAfee on my computer for years. It came free with my first computer I purchased a few years ago and I have been able to upgrade it easily online with it when it runs out each year with the great, easy to follow, step by step instructions from the McAfee website. This 2009 version is available to buy and download at great prices this year and I have just bought this latest one at my local PC store on a great special offer for my daughters computer.

McAfee really is very easy to use, is really easy to install and has excellent PC protection, with its great Web Site Safety Advise feature that's included. It comes with all the usual Anti-virus, Anti-spyware, Firewalls and Web Site Safety features, as before like on previous additions. It allows me to Email, chat and go online without any worry at all. I know I am completely safe with this security suite. It has never let me down. QuickClean on this anti-virus, also safely removes any junk files, that slow your PC down and that take up space on your hard drive for you also.

McAfee blocks all unknown threats on each website I visit. It has picked up a virus and trojan threat also that I had. You can run the virus scan also, when ever you chose and its very easy to navigate around and work this feature. It really has kept my old PC virus free and is an excellent Anti-virus in my opinion.

Overall thoughts of McAfee
I highly recommend McAfee to anyone that has never used this before. It will give you peace of mind everytime you surf online and will not let you down. It's a great anti-virus I have been using for years on my old PC, that has kept it virus free and working well. For it's price I think it is an excellent anti-virus. It does not use up as much memory as Norton does either. A great anti-virus that I highly recommend

Reason for purchasing
My husband purchased this external harddrive online and at a good price, as he needed more storage space for his files, music and movies. This hard drive was the perfect solution for his all his needs really, with its extra 750 GB and the price was good also. He did a number of online reviews of this before buying and it certainly has lived up to the good ones.

This Hard disk really has a nice black glossy finish to it and is very well designed. It has a beautiful blue LED light that glows from underneath it when it is on and it looks very nice indeed .It really looks sophisticated and It fits well onto our desk without taking up to much room there. It has a very quiet fan that cools and you would not even no this appliance was in use.

How this works
This Hard Disk hard drive comes with a triple SATA, is FireWired and has a high-speed USB interface onboard. This makes it compatible with all kinds of different configurations.Instead of a fan, this Hard Disk is equipped with an advanced cooling type of system, so you can store all your files, images and music safely. My husband transfered all his media files from his computer to this hardrive and in fast time also. It really has the capacity to store 750GB, which is really useful to us and it transfers files at 60mb a second. It has plenty of space left that should last us for a while, which is great.

Setup
Setup is nearly effortless with this. It's a plug and play and offers customizable formatting. LaCie '1-Click' Backup Software for PC and Mac is included for quickly saving files in one click. It also comes with a step by step and easy to follow manual, which is easy to read. It also comes with a two year warranty for peace of mind.Overall Opinion
Overall the perfect file storage solution when you need it. An excellent hardrive and it works very well, is easy to set up and looks amazing to the eye. I would highly recommend this hard drive to anyone looking to add more storage room for their files. It really is a very quiet system and a great device for all the extra storage you need. Thumbs up from me. Source

D-Link DP 300U: Excellent fast performance

{ Posted on 3:48 AM by ikayana }
Tags :

Reasons for purchasing
We use this D-link in our home and I am very pleased with it. It connects to your Ethernet or Fast Ethernet network, is very easy to install and provides excellent fast performance all round. The DPU allows our computers on our network to access and share a USB printer and two parallel printers no matter where they are on the network. The DPU is equipped with two IEEE1284 parallel ports also, which is very useful and one USB 2.0 port for handy connections to most printers available on the market today. It seems to be of good quality it's self and very durable.

What it does
This server really does allow easy installation and also it is configured, when you use your internet browsers or a Windows compatible configuration program. Using your internet browsers on a computer connected to your own network, configuration is then made very easy, quickly and straightforward with this useful D-Link print server. With this PS Admin, a Windows based configuration program can also be used to configure the DPU. This D-Link allows you to share one USB enabled printer and two parallel port enabled printers, right across your network. With this DPU, anyone on your network can readily access a shared printer and this is very handy. I go into my network, look for the shared printer, hit print and I can hear the printer going in the other room. Additionally, having a print server helps save energy by eliminating the need for a dedicated computer to be powered on all the time, to host a shared printer and this is a great feature.

Overall Opinion
The little booklet that comes along with this server gives full instructions for XP, the ME instructions, are on the CD ROM. Both were really easy to follow, and were easy for a network novice like me to use. So far I have only used it for my HP Laser Printer, but print jobs have come out very quickly and flawlessly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this print server at all. An excellent device for everyone. It really is very handy being able to share devices around my home this way. Highly recommended in my opinion and its a good price also.

Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate

Reason for purchasing Office 2007
My husband purchased this version of Microsoft Office to replace and upgrade the 2003 one that he was using. I did not need to buy this for myself. This one allows you to use it on two computers, one is a laptop and he decided to put it on mine as he uses it from time to time while at home. Office 2007 includes new applications and server-side tools. Also included is Office SharePoint Server 2007. Microsoft FrontPage has been removed from this and is replaced with Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer which is better in my opinion. Its not all that different really from 2003, but I will tell you what is below and a little about it all.

I really am pleased with Microsoft Office 2007. It was all very easy to setup indeed. In the box you will will find two disks. The first disk contains all your sortware and the second disk contains your applications and your guarantee of ownership, which you must confirm when setting it up. There was no user manual so I was disapointed about that.

New features of Microsoft Office
There is lots of good new features with this Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate compared to the 2003 addition, and most of them are far better than the 2003 version in my opinion. Microsoft Office SharePoint is now replaced from the front page and is far better in my opinion, well laid out and easier to use. It has a new improved new user interface which Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access have all been improved and carefully upgraded. The new default font used in this edition is now called Calibri.

SharePoint Services
Microsoft Office 2007 includes great new features and they are directed towards data sharing also. SharePoint now replaces the front page. It now has server components for applications such as Excel, which work along side this service. It is used with Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007, which actually hosts this SharePoint site. Excel Services are very good and will allow any of your worksheets to be created, edited and maintained by your browser browsers. SharePoint can also be used along with Word documents for editing and for sharing your documents. SharePoint can also preform, PowerPoint slides in a great little Slide Library, from which the slides can be used as formatting templates for your work. SharePoint can now help manage Power Point with shared reviews and presentations.

File menu
File menu has now been replaced with Office 2007 button and is situated at the very top left hand side of the window. It provides instant access to all your Office applications including, saving, opening, printing and sharing your files. You can choose lots of lovely interface colors for this as well which is a good feature I like using.

New mini toolbar feature
A new mini toolbar feature, which is actually a context menu, which will come up automatically when you select your text. This really is a very useful feature that allows access to all your formatting control features without having to use your mouse like the older 2003 version. I really love this little toolbar on this new one.

Access Toolbar
This is a really good feature and is situated in the title bar. It is used for most functions. This tool bar can be customized (unlike the mini toolbar) which is good to suit your own needs. Any command you want can be added to this for quick access and I find it is excellent. Keyboard shortcuts can also be customized like in the previous version of 2003.

Tabs
Tabs will appear when certain things are selected on Office. Selecting an image or picture for example, will bring up all your pictures. All these tabs remain hidden until your selection of an object is chosen.

Ribbon
Ribbon now replaces all the menus and toolbars. It holds all the the command buttons and all icons also, will organize commands as sets of tabs, which will group the relevant commands together for you. All your different applications have their own sets of little tabs. Different options may be grouped together in here also. The Ribbon was designed for quicker and easier access, without having to use your mouse and it really is a fantastic new feature to office. I prefair this much better indeed. You cannot completely remove the Ribbon, but you can mimimize it down if required. It does take a while to get into the way of Ribbon I have found, but when you do its great.

Smart Art
This is an excellent new feature that is found under the tab Ribbon on Office. It has 115 layout graphic templates in this. There is lots of features on this that I am still learning about and there is also quick styles and things on here also. It can also change your font color to match your documents theme which is really nice. Templates need to be downloaded from Mircosoft office online though and if you had the 2003 version on your computer it might tell you that your product key is invalid and I have heard a few complaints about this, but so far I have had no problems.

Mircosoft office New Office Open XML
The Office Open is a new type of file formating, used with this system. Now my Word documents are saved using the 'docx extension' which now replaces the doc extension on the 2003 version. It still can save all your documents in the previous format, as it is compatible with it though. Also there is an add-on available, now called "Compatibility Pack" that will let office open 2000 and the 2003 and can save them in the new 2007 format, which is really great. This new office XMLhas a ZIP file container on board and this allows your documents to be saved 75 times smaller than before due to it compressing data so this is very useful. This is a really great new feature on 2007 I really am pleased with.

Grove" another new feature
Grove is the host to your documents on Office. It is also manages your workspace. It is a good peer to peer feature, that shares files really well. It will allow one to one and group messaging and monitors alerts on your activities well. It has a built in calender also, but it will not work with mircrosoft outlook. Overall this is an excellent feature on this new 2007 version of office I like also.

Mircrosoft 2007 Office Outlook
Outlook on this new version of Office, will only work with 2000 and above. Evolution, Outlook Express and Entourage are all left out of this version now. To speed up your searches, Outlook now indexes, emails and contacts etc. This is a good touch and is really helpful I have found. All your search folders are updated as well and now you even have RSS feeds also. You will also find that Outlook now supports text-messages and SMSs, which is all very handy indeed. All Contacts can now be shared among users, by e-mail, Exchange Server or by your SharePoint site. You can now view Office e-mail attachments without having to open a separate window which is really good in my opinion. This new Office Outlook is far better in my opinion and I like it much better than it was before. It will take time though to get used to everything, but once you do there will be no going back to the older one.

Microsoft Office Word
Quick and new styles are now available to Office Word. A new spellchecker is on here also, but I find it has a few faults 'like telling you words that are spelt correctly' are wrong, which can be really annoying. Word count works well and updates, as you type. I like this feature as it's useful. A good translation tool converts your words into US English, Spanish and even French and is an excellent feature that I use often. I really love using Word on here for my website entries. I can upload them directly to my website from here, as it supports Windows Live Spaces as well as a few others. The Full screen reading layout is really great and can now show two pages at a time with full screen use, plus a few important tools for reviewing with. I really like all the new styles of Word on this version. Great improvements though overall.

Microsoft Office Excel
This really is great for worksheets and offers three new fearures I have found useful, being Color Scales, Icon Sets and Data Bars. The Color Scales will color automatically, backgrounds acording to the values ot it. A new Quick filter option allows you the selection of multiple items from a drop down list of items in the column, which is good. It also has a new charting engine, which supports formatting and chart layers and can be customized for your needs now, which I like. Spreadsheets can now be used in a way that mirrors the formatting, that will be added when printed by the new Page Layout view. Excellent improvements overall to Excel in my opinion.

Microsoft Office OneNote
OneNote is now used to support multiple notebooks and this is very useful indeed. Notebooks can now be shared with a few computers. Notebook templates are now included on this as well and are really nice. Outlook can also now be used to send mail to OneNote, or even access pages in OneNote that are linked to other tasks etc. All your Audio and video recordings are now also tagged, so that they can be searched for, so easily indeed. Great new support that is really useful and well thought out in my opinion.

Powerpoint
There is quite a lot of improvements to this feature, that I really love. It renders 3D graphics and also also text based graphics now also. There is far more support for formats such as your mp3 and wma files on here. All your slide librarys can now be saved and the Presenter View is really improved on here alot. Great touches overall to powerpoint and certainly for the best in my opinion.

Overview
Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate really does deliver better results faster and easily shares information with others well. All the new features on here make it a really pleasing experience that I love and will not be without now. It gives me better results in less time and helps me create my documents faster and far easier than before. Everything really is Improved on 2007 Office and a lot of effort can clearly be seen on here in them doing so. I really am better organised now than before and I also find it saves me a lot of time, as I do not have to search menus over and over like the 2003 version. I highly recommend Office 2009 but if you use 2003 it still is good for now.

It did take me around a week to get used to it all but it certainly was worth it in the end. I still am learning from Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate and enjoy everything new I come across. I really do recommend anyone that can afford to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 to do so. It really is worth it and you will find it a lot better than before. I highly recommend this to everyone as I really love most things about it. It works well with Vista also which surprised me.

A few dislikes of mine

There was no instruction manual with this product and I was slightly disapointed about that. A manual would of been very useful when I could not find a few programes. I could not find the accounting programe that was supposed to be included with it, but after going online, I saw a few people had the same complaint and quickly discovered it was on the second disc that came with it.The price of this was very expensive indeed and I feel a lot of people would buy this if it was more avordable. Does it really cost so much to make a few discs these days? I know the programme costs billions to make but surely Mircrosoft would sell more of them if the price much was lower than it is

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1: Best phone ever made

{ Posted on 3:44 AM by ikayana }

Reason I OWN the Xperia
I do not think anyone is going to believe me but this is the first mobile phone I have ever owned. Yes! I have used my husbands and daughters a very odd time, but this is the very first phone I have ever owned and I really am impressed with it. I should of had a molile years ago and do not think I will be without one ever again.

My daughter kept saying to me that I really should have a cell phone incase I break down in the car, as I live in the country side. She said she was buying me one for Christmas and she did. I did not expect such an extravagent phone from her and I was slightly annoyed with her when I found out the price of it, but she said "its's only the best for you Mum". She told me 'I would love this kind of phone' and 'boy 'is she right.

Design
On first unwrapping this phone I really was impressed. The first reason was because I nearly died of shock at receiving this and secondly I was taken by it's looks and features. I opened the box and unwrapped the phone and really was amazed on how small it was for this type of phone. I thought it was going to be much bigger. It really felt solid and well made. It was no cheap plastic phone either. It was metal and even the QWERTY keypads keys where metal. I really was pleased with this.

The overall design is very pleasing indeed. It really is a very good looking, stylish and a really modern phone. It is very impressive and eyecatching indeed. The best looking phone around in my opinion. Everything on board really comes together on it and compliments each other very well. It is a beautiful silver shiny phone with black features, that really match it well. I love it!

Everything is really well laid out on this phone and is very easy to see and read. The full QWERTY keyboard slides out very easily indeed. It really is a lovely keyboard with well made and cleverly designed silver keys. The back of the phone is metal also, which makes it totally sophisticated indeed. It is not overly heavy either.

At the front of my Sony Ericsson XPERIA is a large LCD display screen. Also on the front is the speaker and also the video camera and there is also a small light sensor. There is also the keys for the XPERIA panels key, soft keys and a Windows Mobile OK-key. There is also a 5-way d-pad, which will double up to become an optical joystick. On the very back of the phone is the camera. It is a whopping 3.2 mega pixel, which is excellent for a phone. All of these functions work really well and all seem to be off good finger size for me personally and in the correct places.

At the very bottom of my Xperia is the microphone. It works well. There is also an eyelet and I have a little charm attached there. At the top of my phone is the Power switch and a jack port for listening to my music with earphones. On the left side of the phone is a mini-USB port, micro-SD card slot, and a speaker. On the right hand side of the phone there is a camera shutter button, the camera zoom button and the of course the volume keys.

The battery
The battery is a large 1500 mAh BST-41 battery. It sits behind a good looking, stylish cover that I like. It is easy to take out and remove it also. Apparently it is the the largest capacity battery to date on the market. This phone lasts over five days, before I needed to charge it. I was amazed at first, as I was using every function going on my phone. You will also find behind the battery, the SIM card slot and the micro-SD card slot, which are nicely tucked away.

The keyboard
The keyboard on this phone is excellent. My husband says it's the best one hes ever used. The whole aspect of it is very strong and the keys are very solid and comfortable. They really are very easy to use as well and I love this feature with this phone. You can just feel that this keyboard is of top quality when you use it and even open it up. The Keyboard slides out of the phone and feels very strong, safe and very secure to me. The keyboard is also very comfortable to use and the keys are well spaced in my opinion and I can type quite quickly with it also.

The keyboard on this phone by the way does not slide, like a lot of people have commented to me on, as they thought it did, well actually it is the screen it's self that slides. It slides out I guess, for easier viewing of the screen and easier typing by its swing motion and postion. It all feels rather nice to me and in a class of it's own. It really has been designed very well indeed with everything taken into consideration. This keyboard on this phone has to be tried out to be believed. It really is a pleasure to use it.

The screen
This is an excellent screen in my opinion. It nearly fills out the whole front of My phone. It has a 3-inch display on it. When the phone is closed over, the screen looks really well on it in my opinion. The screen is the best one I have even seen on any mobile to date. It really is clear, crisp and the color is so vibrant that you will be amazed with it. It is excellent when watching your videos and you will really impress your friends with it. You will notice how bright and clear the fonts all are also on this. It really is a high resolution of (800 x 480 pixels) apparently. It's really excellent quality viewing indeed! To me its very clear, easy to see and is the best quality screen I have seen on any phone before this one.

Overall build of phone
The overall build of this phone is amazing in my opinion. The metal finish is of high quality and it really feels nice to hold it in your hands. The overall feel of this phone reminds you what you paid for. Quality. You know that if you accidently drop this phone, It is not going to break into two. It really is very stylish and eyecatching and you will be proud to show this off to your friends, as I sure am.

Interface of phone
The Software that came included in my box, where some applications from Sony Ericsson and your basic Microsoft Windows Mobile ones. There really are a lot of interfaces to choose from and ways of interacting with all the applications throughout this phone. Lots of features on the interface can easily be used with your fingers, but a lot are more difficult to use this way and you will need to use your stylus that comes with your phone I find. You can get into all your message folders and things with your finger though, which is handy also.

Camera
I really love the camera on my phone. It is 3.2 mega pixels and has a CMOS-based, touch auto focus. It has a really good LED flash on this as well. The camera's interface looks really great also and it works well, as a large view finder also. All the buttons are on the screen it's self and everything is really easy to work out and use. The software with this camera is excellent and the best I have seen and used before.

The picture quality on my Xperias camera, is excellent also. It really has to be seen to be believed. It will match a lot of cameras on it's quality. The color on the photos is really natural, but vibrant. They also are really clear for a camera phone in my opinion. The flash works well also. This phone is Sonys first phone capable of recording video clips in (640 x 480 pixels). Videos are good on this, but the sounds slightly lower than it should be or I would like, but the videos make up for it on this phone, as they come out great every time.

The Radio
This phone has two pre-loaded players and it really is excellent to use this also. This phone just goes on with my praises. The player is really easy to use and well laid out with nice and clear Icons on it. it looks like windows media you get on a PC actually. You can easily create playlists on it. The sound quality is very good on it also and the radio works very well.

GPS system
The GPS system is very good on this phone, but it only lasts a few hours with the battery, but it's good for shorter journeys I find. It is easy enough to use this. It uses Google Maps and WayFinder Navigator. They come pre-loaded, which is good, as I would not know where to start with this. You can naturally go around the world, and zoom in on areas if you choose. You can do all your A to B trips very well on here I have found. This is a really good feature on this phone that I find useful.

My overall conclusion of this phone
What can I say. This phone is amazing. It is awesome, amazing and incredible and has to be tried and seen to be believed. The reception is really good as well on my phone and I am pleased that it really is so good, as no one in my household can pick up a good signal, without having to move to a window somewhere, but not me. I really am blessed with this phone.

This to me, is not just a phone it is everything you ever need in one luxury device and everything works really well. It is so impressive in my opinion, you will be blown away and constantly showing this off to everyone you meet, like I first did. This phone is perfect. It's in a league of it's own. Every simgle aspect of this phone works brilliantly and the quality of it is top of the range. I never would of believed everything we really need would be on one single device, for at least another ten years. Well it is now here, on my phone and this one has only one fault I believe, and it is with software or so I am told. I will find out more on this for you as its what I am told. I do not have this problem or have not come across it myself on MY Xperias software.I highly recommend this phone to everyone. It has to be tried out for your selves to know what I am talking about. You really will be impressed with Xperia, like me. I guarantee that. Honest. It really is an amazing phone, that I cannot believe someone has bought for me. I will be forever in their debt, as this is my new best friend that I love dearly and I cannot put it down at the moment.

Google Chrome: The need for browsing speed is finally here

{ Posted on 3:39 AM by ikayana }
Tags :

REASONS FOR USING GOOGLE CHROME.
I know there is many reviews on the internet about Google Chrome, but I thought I would write one and voice my opinions and experiences of it myself, as I really want to let everyone know how great a browser it really is. I first started using Google Chrome about two months ago, as I was having problems on Ciao accepting friends and writing comments. I reported this technical hitch to Ciao and was advised by a technision there to change my web browser, as Ciao does not support Internet explorer (or vice versa) sorry I am not great at the technical stuff, but anyway I was recommended by the tech guy on Ciao to use Morzilla Firefox or Google Chrome.Well I wanted to make my profile page work better on Ciao and add friends etc, when I chose to and with out all these hitches, I was getting everyday. I first downloaded Morzilla Firefox on to my laptop to try this browser out, but it sure ate up my Ram on my computer and I soon had to take it off again. It was a great browser, don't get me wrong, but I did not have enough memory to support it unfortunately.

After using Firefox for a few days, with major issues and no ram to support it left, on my laptop, I them decided to un-install it and try Google Chrome out instead. I really am glad I did. It is excellent. It's far better in my opinion, than Firefox, does not eat up your ram and it sure is very fast at searches and opening pages up indeed. I will share my experiences below about it. I am not a technical person though, but I will do my best to share Google Chrome with you all and how I find it personally.

INSTALLING GOOGLE CHROME
Google Chrome is certainly very easy to find online to download. Just go to your current browser and type in your seach engine box, the words Goggle Chrome and you will find the website to download it from, in the first few websites listed, on the first page, your search results gives you. Well to me it was very easy to find the free online download for it. I found it in seconds!

Once you find the site to download Google Chrome you will see the download box very easily (as it is clearly marked) and you just need to click it on and follow the installation guide. It is easy to follow and use this guide and you will be taken through it step by step. It really is very quick indeed at installing also. It was downloaded unto my laptop in around thirty seconds, which was great, as some programmes take forever. You also get a choice of set up also and you will be asked if you want to save all your bookmarks and favorites, from your other browsers also, which is a great feature, I personally was pleased with, as it saved me losing all my favorite websites, I use daily, having to search for them all and also having to bookmark them over again.

Google Chrome on first installing, will also save all your passwords and set-up from your other browsers you use or have used before, which is very handy indeed. Once you have ticked your options on your check list Google Chrome will open up on your desk top straight away.

Installing Google Chrome was a breeze I found and much easier than any other browsers I have installed before. It also downloaded very fast and and was ready to use in under one minute of seaching for the free download and installing it. I use Vista on my laptop, by the way and had no problems at all. A good downloading service, that a novice like me, was pleased with overall.

Google Chrome supports Vista and XP by the way, and will be available to Linux and Mac soon
DESIGN AND LAYOUT OF GOOGLE CHROME.
Google Chrome is not really a fancy web browser at all. It is quite plain and straight forward in design. On first seeing it, you really might be surprised with how plain it really is, especially if you have used Morzilla Firefox or Safari before it. I was expecting a fancy colorful web browser myself and was slightly disappointed on discovering a plain white page, edged in blue, with very few features or add-ons on it.

Well after the initial shock of finding this boring and plain interface, I had a look around to find where everything was and how to use Google Chrome basically. It really is very minimal indeed, but it has all the features you really only need for searching and browsing on. The only colorful feature is the Google Chrome Emblem at the right hand side of the page, that adds a slight bit of color to this interface and cheers it up.

At the very top of Google Chromes interface you will find a row of tabs in white, that resemble the corner of a file page. Underneath that is the web address bar, a bookmarks button, which is a little yellow star edged in blue, a reload the page button. On the opposite side you will find at the top the tools tab, that customises and controls your setting and options, a 'control the current page button' and another bookmark folder that is a colored brown, file symbol. You also have on the front interface a recent bookmarks section, which contains, new tabs and a recently closed tabs section, which is rather useful and handy to click onto if needed.

Google Chrome does not have have a full menu bar, like most browsers do and no title bar either. This is good though, in my opinion, as nothing interupts me when searching etc or drops down. On the interface there is also a highlighted search history button, that takes you to your daily web searches and can be useful, but Google Chrome also has an Incognito tab, that opens a page in a new window and when using the Incognito tab, it does not save your search history unto your computer and I find this great to use sometimes if I search something private or something I dont want anyone else to find. It is a great added feature in my opinion.

You can also set Google Chrome as your homepage by setting up your most visited sites, that you use daily to it, which is very handy to have then staring at you on your interface. I really like this feature a lot on Google Chrome. I just look at the little mini window thumbnails and even recognise the websites from the pictures on there and click them on. This is a great way, I find personally, to find websites I have visted, very quickly indeed.

You can also add your own search engine to Google Chrome, but because it is Google it automatically sets your default search engine as Google it's self, but to me I really prefare using Google to any other browser out there anyway, as it has an extensive range of information.

Google Chrome has also got a great tasks manager. It is very useful to click this on and see how much memory an actual page your visiting is using up. If you need to correct anything in there though, you will have to go into the settings and change this yourself. The task mamager is also great for using when a page crashes etc to see whats causing the problem and if you use the ingognito tab, this stops any other windows you have opened at the same time, from crashing also. It is a great feature on Google Chrome.

Well overall it might be a very plain interface, but it has great features on it, that I really find very handy indeed. Everything I need is there right in front of me. It really is a great browser in this way, that I find very easy to use and very fast at finding websites and searches also. It is twice as fast as any browser I have ever used before.

To me Google Chrome has been designed to provide exactly what I have been dreaming of for years. Much simpler and faster internet browsing. It truly is a great new way of searching and browsing in faster speeds than ever before. It really is a very well designed and laid out interface, that's been aimed towards being easier to use, quicker at searching and really getting everything done in a much more convenient way.

TOOL BARS AND SETTINGS OPTIONS
Google Chrome certainly loads pages a lot faster than Firefox in my opinion. I would not go back to using Internet Explorer now after using Google Chrome. Google Chromes options window is very easy to use and set to your own personal choice also. In this window there are three tabs at the top. One for your basic options and which way you want your page to start up. Also the basic option contains, your choice of set up for home pages, your default search and also your default browser. Everything is very well marked and clearly written in this options window. I find it very easy to use this myself, as it is very well laid out.

The second tab in the options menu is for your minor tweeks. You can set your download location of your files etc and you also have a choice to tick this box and to save your passwords (or not) in there. You also have a choice to change the language in there to another, if you require. This is also very well laid out and easy to use I find.

The third tab in the options window is called "Under The Hood" It is great feature and very well laid laid out and easy to use, to set up your options also with Google Chrome. You have five options to tick in here from sending crash reports to enabling your phishing and Malware settings. You can also allow/dis-allow your cookies, by just ticking the box. Under the hood also allows you to set up a proxy network or connect to one.

BROWSING HISTORY
Your browsing history is very easy to find on Google Chrome also. Right in the centre of it's interface you will see a faintly written "Show search history" You just click this on and it takes you instantly to your websites you have visited that day. This is useful also, at finding a website you meant to check something on , but forgot to etc. You can easily clear the search history also, by just clicking on "Clear history" and it will deleted your browsing history for that day. The same can be done for everyday before that, that you visited also.

You can also view your browsing history data from the tools drop down window. Just scroll down to the "clear browsing data" link and you can clear your browsing history, download history, empty the cache, delete your cookies and clear saved passwords in one simple click, if you have the boxes for each browsing data ticked. You can choose to clear it for the day, week or for everything you have ever saved in there.

SOME PROBLEMS I HAVE ENCOUNTERED WITH GOOGLE CHROME
I recently discovered that Google Chrome does not recognise some websites. Well it is only very few though. I also was installing a new messenger on my laptop and I could not download it on Google Chromes browser at all and had to use Internet explorer instead. I guess Google Chrome is still in it's early stages though and I have heard it has other problems and bugs with it. Here is some other problems I have came across myself:

It does not regonise a few websites
It will not install some games properly (especially from Pongo)
It will not install your old Firefox bookmarks (will import them from Exployer though)
My Laptop does not go to sleep, while Chrome is running?
Would not install Windows programmes on this browser
I guess a lot of bugs are found in any new Beta software though and I believe Google Chrome is sorting everything thing out. I really think when they do, this browser will be outstanding in every department. I recently heard a newer version of Google Chrome has been launced with over 300 reported, problems resolved.

Plug-ins for Google Chrome
I found it slightly disappointing that there is no plug-ins (as yet) for Google Chrome. I am sure there will be some available very soon for it, but if you have used Firefox you will be slightly disapointed yourself with this overall. Well if it's just a browser you are after. Google Chromes perfect for it.

MY OVERALL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS OF GOOGLE CHROME.
I used Internet Explorer for many years and was sort of set in my ways with it. I was happy with everything it did really, until I had a few problems on certain websites that it did not support. Well I was starting to use these Websites everyday and I had no choice to stop using Internet Explorer. I tried out Firefox first, as I mentioned earlier, but memory was a big problem to me. I did not have enough, so I then I tried my second, newly recommended browser and I really am so pleased I did. I really would not go back to using Internet Exployer after using Google Chrome. The speed of this browser is absolutely amazing.

Google Chrome to me, is so easy to use and with so very little effort at all. It has been designed and laid out this way to save us time and make it more suitable for browsing only. I really do not mind it having no add on or plug-ins for what I use my laptop for. It suits my needs, personally, very well indeed. I just turn on my Laptop, let it load up and then hit the little Google Chrome Icon that I have saved on my desktop. It loads instantly when I do. Every time! I really think it is very easy to find your favorite web pages on it and I even have my last visited websites, all nicely thumb nailed on the interface. It is so useful to just go on Google Chrome and see these little thumbnails of your favorite websites and click them on to open them.

Google Chrome was really the easiest download I ever did. It was installed and ready to use on my laptop in seconds. I really was pleased that no unwanted extras got downloaded with this also. It really is the fastest and easiest browser in every way. From using and installing Google Chrome, you really will be pleased with these features and surprised with them like I was.

Google Chrome has really made searching and browsing on the internet, much more faster for me indeed. I instantly get results from Chrome that I never thought possible and that's the truth. I know Firefox is fast, but Chrome beats it hands down. For what I use my laptop for and for searching and surfing the web, Google Chrome is pefect for my daily needs. I really am pleased I downloaded and installed Google Chrome, as it has certainly made my life more easier on the internet.

Well would I recommend Google Chrome. Well I would have to say I highly recommend Google Chrome to everyone. It is amazing how fast this browser is. The interface may be slightly plain and as of yet there is no plug-ins with Google Chrome, but to me that really is not a problem at all. It is the speed that I love and also the way Google Chrome bookmarks your last visited websites to it's interface. It really has made my browsing and searching a lot easier indeed. I love it!

You really must try Google Chrome out for yourselves. It might not suit the gamers etc out there, but for just browsing and surfing the web I really think it's perfect. The need for internet speed is finally here with Google Chrome. The best browser yet in my opinion. Please check it out yourselves, but try the new version of Google Chrome, as the bugs are now fixed and I have heard it is even faster again than this first Beta version. Excellent!

Top Ten Vacation Spots - Northern Irelands Antrim Coast

Any one visiting Northern Ireland cannot go there with out visiting the famous Antrim coast. It is known for it's out standing beauty, breath taking scenery and extensive ruins. It certainly is on my list of ten top vacation spots to visit in the world. A few places of historic interest and out standing beauty there to visit is:

DUNLUCE CASTLE
On approaching this site, the white rocks beneath are majestically crowned by Dunluce castle. It is joined to the mainland by an arched walkway and underneath the dazzling white limestone rocks, lies the enchanted mermaids cave. Dunluce Castle (Dun Lios) in Irish, is translated, as the Fairy fort. It is the most breathtaking and most extensive Castle ruin you will find in Northern Ireland. As you approach the ruin, you nearly need to pinch yourself, as on first seeing it, it looks like something from a fantasy story scene. It is truly breathtaking. You are just waiting for the fairies and leprechauns to appear. Dunluce castle is believed to have been built on top of a medieval fort, where it's history can be traced back to the early Christians and Vikings. Around the 13th century, the Earl of Ulster Richard De burgh first built Dunluce castle on top of the ruins of the old fort that was there. Records are not really precise, but the Castle was lived in over many years by the McQuillen family. It was taken by force from them by a man named Sorley bay Mac Donnel in 1565.

In 1584, Sorley bay Mac Donnel, discovered treasures from the shipwrecked boat 'Girona' from the Spanish Armada. The treasures where washed up a few miles away just off the Giants causeway. He used these riches to modernize his Castle. Years later in the early 1600,s the Earl and Countess of Antrim, took up residence at Dunluce Castle. They further decorated the Castle with Gifts from the Queen and put up breathtaking paintings of the zodiac. Soon Dunluce Castle was one of the finest, most beautiful Castles in all medieval Europe.

Soon the area was booming and a village of merchants, settlers and Irishmen, soon rose around Dunluce castle, and Dunluce became an important centre of commerce in the area. In 1639, part of the castle and it's kitchens broke off and plunged down into the sea. Seven cooks, who where working at that time, plummeted to their deaths. With the tragic loss off their staff, the Countess persuaded the Earl to leave Dunluce and move nearby. Two years later it was invaded and the surrounding village burnt down.

By 1690, Dunluce Castle was completely deserted. During the years of abandonment many visitors have came and went, making claims the Castle is haunted, by ghosts, giants, dwarfs and other mythological creatures. It is hard to believe the castle is haunted though, as it looks so enchanting and beautiful. A fairy tale Castle is a must to see.

THE GIANTS CAUSEWAY
As you look down towards the sea, it is easy to understand why the Giants causeway has been called the 8th wonder of the world by many people. The strange beauty of the place is enough to take even the most hardened persons breath away. Starting at the foot of a cliff and edging downwards towards the Irish Sea, there are polygonal stones, gray, but inviting you to come closer. This is really a place of wonder, of legend. A must see place for anyone. It's one of of the most enticing places of mystery and fascination that your likely to come across ever.

The causeway itself, is made up of nearly 40,000 polygonal columns of gray basalt, forming huge stepping stones, some of which are forty foot high. They are all tightly placed together, and most of them are hexagonal in shape, but some have four, five, seven and eight sides. The formations were created as a result of volcanic activity around 50 million years ago. As the molten lava hit the sea water and hit the air, it quickly cooled forming these strange and mysterious columns.

Folk law in the area has it, that the causeway was built by an Ulster Giant - Finn McCool. Finn was said in one legend (there is a few) to be in love with a beautiful lady giant who lived in Scotland, on the Island called Staffa, and that the causeway was built to bring her to Ulster. Interestingly, there is similar stones on Staffas coastline, and Scotland was once much closer than it is today.

The causeways existence was first noted around 1692. The coast road leading down into the causeway was only built in the 1830,s and early travelers would revive themselves of whiskey at Bushmills Town nearby, that was on route then to the causeway.. There is more to the causeway than the basalt pillars though. A five mile walk discovers the site of the 'Girona' a Spanish Armada ship, that was shipwrecked in 1588 by the ragged rocks and rough sea surrounding the causeway.

The National trust now owns the site and its the only 'World Heritage site. The causeway of the Giants and it being the 8th wonder of the world, is a very sound one.

Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge
Carrick-a-rede rope bridge is one of Northern Ireland's best loved attractions. The rope bridge has been used for around 350 years. There is an 80 foot drop down from it and it is not for the faint hearted. Fishermen used it to cross to Rocky Island as the rough sea made it too difficult by boat. They used to catch Salmon in this area, but sadly there is no Salmon around this coast now. It is now used for a tourist attraction and is a great bird spotting Island with breathtaking scenery.

White Park Bay
White park Bay is a sandy golden stretch of beautiful white sand and beautiful clear blue water. The first settlers in Ireland landed hear by boat. Three passage tombs stand on the highest point of surrounding hills, over looking the bay. One is an Druids alter. The area is of out standing beauty, breathtaking and warming. A must to visit and explore. This certainly is one of my top ten Vacation spots ever. There is plenty of great Hotels, guest houses and even mobile homes to stay in, in this area. All of them are excellent by the way.

The Old distillery at Bushmills
Just two miles from the giants causeway the Bushmills distillery lies in another area of out standing beauty. It is rich in history. It claims to be the oldest distillery in the world, operating from around 1608 and is 400 years old this year. King Henry II troops drank Bushmills 400 years ago and it was licensed in 1608 by King James I. A great place to visit for a refreshment or just to take in the picturesque scenery.

Northern Ireland's Antrim Coast is soaked in history and is one of the most breathtaking places in the whole of Europe, perhaps the world. Only a visit there can reveal the true and Natural beauty of it wonderful, historical picturesque coastline.

There is plenty of Hotels, guest houses and caravan sites littered along the Antrim coast for at least twelve miles. They are all friendly and welcoming places to stay in. The are also has a few towns to shop in near by also. Portrush is a great town to visit with Theme parks, Hotels and plenty of restaurants. For a bigger shopping experience. Coleraine is a few Miles down the road and Belfast is just over 50 miles from here also.

Another vacation spot on my list would have to be the Island of Ibiza. I have visited here twice in my life and I am planning a third trip this Summer. It is a great little Island.

Essential to peace of mind is protecting the PC and your online privacy. When connected to the web, your work and data is open to attacks of various kinds including harmful downloads. A simple game, picture, or program may be the vehicle for malevolence. So, you need to check whether every file that you download, open, or save, is safe or whether there are irregularities of any kind.

Protect your PC by:

  • Blocking hackers and viruses by installing the latest firewall and antivirus software. It is advisable to install a software firewall even if you have a hardware firewall in your system. A software firewall is designed to query whether or not it should permit "X," access. The user can specify which applications can access the port and which cannot. A bi-directional firewall such as ZoneAlarm3 and Personal Firewall 5 will monitor both inbound and outbound traffic preventing Trojans and backdoor programs from functioning.

  • Block downloads that install unwanted programs by using the options in Internet explorer to block all software from source X specified by you.

  • Install software programs that will constantly scan your PC for spyware, adware, dialers, and web bug traces which can create a nuisance and cause crashes, slow down systems, or steal financial information. By adding a schedule you can instruct NoAdware to automatically scan your PC at set times for in-filtrations.

  • Immunize your PC and prevent malicious add ons to your system.

  • Configure your PC browser to protect you when you are working online. Use a 'real time shield' and prevent intrusions. Be sure to click the "protect IE Favorites" box and ensure that no thief can add an URL without your permission to your browser's favorites list. This will block offensive and dangerous websites from entering your PC environs.

  • Say "no" to any web address or site that instructs you to download specific software to view their pages. Such software can contain a virus, Trojan horse, or auto dialer.

  • Create a regular back up schedule for your work. Once a week is ideal if you are a virtual worker or running a business. This will minimize any damage should problems arise.

  • Be sure to update your software with the latest patches and bug fixes. Then use the updated or enhanced security settings provided by the updates. There are in built ways which you can operate to block damaging viruses, stamp out cookies, and keep unwanted visitors away from your computer system. The method is easy for example if you are using Internet Explorer just go to Tools-Internet Options-Privacy tab. Click the edit button to accept or reject a specific cookie. Go to the advanced settings and check block third party cookies.

  • Scan all downloaded files before use. Never launch executable or scriptable files namely those that have dot.exe; .bat ;.doc; .vbs extensions. Do not access attachments of any kind before they are certified as safe.

  • Remove file sharing and windows printer options these increase vulnerability of the PC.

  • Encrypt your e-mail and embed an identifying key.
Better be sure than sorry. Preventing snoops is easier than trying to recover after an attack. Take informed steps to protect yourself and your PC.

Tips Understanding the Dangers of Spyware and Adware

{ Posted on 3:20 AM by ikayana }
Tags :

Money is the very crux of adware and Spyware. These pose several problems and are a security risk.

Adware is a program that displays advertisements on the computer whether you want them or not. They are not just connected to particular websites or free software but are programmed to start up whenever your computer is switched on.

Programs like Eudora mail client display advertisements in lieu of charging registration fees for use of software. It helps developers recover program development costs. Kazaa the file sharing application comes bundled with at least three ad-ware programs. Two of them serve ads to the desktop while another redirects the user's browser to a search engine with advertiser sponsored web results. Well known ones are: BroadcastPC; Comet Cursor; GeoWhere; Network Essentials, 123 Messenger, Direct Revenue, and so on.

Unfortunately, other guises of adware are spyware and malware.

Spyware is a program code that relays information about you and your work without your permission or knowledge. Some just "spy" on you conveying your Internet habits to marketing companies, while others are "thieves" they access credit card information as well as other sensitive files. In plain terms, it is malicious software that can intercept or take control of a computer's operation without user knowledge or consent. Termed as "malware" the redefinition of spyware, the programs can:

  • Steal personal information and the address book.
  • Flood the browser with pop-ups.
  • Spam the system.
  • Slow down programs and connection.
  • Hijack the browser and redirect the user to a "con" page.
  • Uses the computer as a server to broadcast porn.
  • Can cause a crash.

Spyware reaches a computer through innocent web pages, game demos, MP3 players, search tool bars, and other downloads like free software. It installs itself and leaves a mark on the windows registry. It can hog the computer resources such as memory and hard drive and cause a crash or lock up. Keystroke-logging spyware can steal passwords and credit card information for thieves.

To protect the files one has to:
  • Use anti adware and spyware programs. Examples: Spybot, Search & destroy, Pest Patrol, and Lavasoft's Adware.
  • Keep windows as well as Internet explorer up-to-date by applying the latest security patches.
  • Maintain the security level of the Internet Explorer at medium. Users must not lower the security level.
  • Use firewalls and web proxies to block access to web sites known to carry spyware.
  • Install layered protection.
  • Update the antivirus program. An up-to-date program will stop spyware as well as Trojans.
  • Install a startup monitor to protect your system.
  • Never accept "free" as being free---check out free software and downloads, there will be a hidden surprise or catch.
  • Never download software from warez sites. Pirated software is always distributed along with adware and spyware.
  • Use Spy checker to determine if the download has spyware. This can be accessed from the free computer securities pages.

An anti-spyware coalition has been instituted by Microsoft, Earthlink, McAfee, and Hewlett-Packard. They are working towards anti-spyware legislation and putting protection systems in place. A survey shows that 87 percent of users know what spyware is and of this 40 percent through firsthand experience. Protect yourself and your work; keep your system free of adware and spyware
